Plant-soil interactions in response to grazing intensity in a semi-arid ecosystem from NE Spain

چکیده
Livestock grazing is an important element in ecosystem regulation since it may affect essential functions, such as nutrient acquisition, organic matter decomposition, or litter accumulation the soil. Overgrazing can threaten conservation of ecosystems through excessive defoliation plants trampling. On contrary, moderate have benefits on dynamics by favoring cycling soil microbial activity. The aim this study was to analyze these effects a semi-arid Mediterranean shrubland located NE Spain. We established six sites including three intensities, where we sampled vegetation biomass and properties: nitrogen content, biomass, water infiltration capacity, porosity, gypsum content. These parameters were included plant-soil interaction model tested Structural Equation Modeling. Grazing had direct negative effect plant (p < 0.01) capacity 0.05) affecting content 0.001) 0.5), respectively. Infiltration porosity primary drivers 0.05, both cases), main contributor pool. Microbial dependent 0.05), 0.01), 0.01). directly indirectly affected functioning attributes, which result changes growth, acquisition. This revealed that maintain optimal features prevent degradation.

Plant Species Diversity Response to Animal Grazing Intensity in Semi-Steppe Rangelands
Knowledge of the relationships between biotic components of rangeland ecosystem i.e. herbivores and plants is important for range managers. In order to study herbivorse grazing intensity on plant species diversity, an experiment was conductef using fuor grazing treatments in darrehshar rangelands, Ilam province in 2015. Plant species data were taken based on a randomized-systematic sampling met...
متن کاملImpacts of grazing intensity on denitrification and N2O production in a semi-arid grassland ecosystem
N2O production from denitrification in soils contributes to the enhanced greenhouse effect and the destruction of the stratospheric ozone. Ungulate grazing affects denitrification and the production of N2O. The short-term effect of grazing on denitrification and N2O production has been examined in several grassland ecosystems. However, the effects of long-term grazing have rarely been studied. ...
متن کاملPlant Species and Functional Types’ Diversity in Relation to Grazing in Arid and Semi-arid Rangelands, Khabr National Park, Iran
In arid and semi-arid rangelands, grazing as one of the natural or human induced processes has direct and indirect effects on structure and dynamics of plant community and ecosystems. A study was done to analyze the effects of grazing on plant species diversity and Plant Functional Types‘ (PFTs) diversity of arid and semi-arid rangelands. We analyzed plant richness and diversity data from 75 sa...
متن کاملResponse of Russian brome, crested wheatgrass and tall wheatgrass to annual precipitation and grazing management in a semi-arid area
Three grass species, Agropyron desertorum (Agde) and Agropyron elongatum (Agel) and recently, Bromus tomentellus (Brto) are mainly used for range improvement as mixed seeding in semi-arid areas of Iran. Because there is little information about management of these grasses, this study was conducted at the Sisab Research Station in northern Iran to evaluate their responses to grazing management a...
متن کاملDo biotic interactions modulate ecosystem functioning along stress gradients? Insights from semi-arid plant and biological soil crust communities.
Climate change will exacerbate the degree of abiotic stress experienced by semi-arid ecosystems. While abiotic stress profoundly affects biotic interactions, their potential role as modulators of ecosystem responses to climate change is largely unknown. Using plants and biological soil crusts, we tested the relative importance of facilitative-competitive interactions and other community attribu...
